Descendants of John Chamberlain(b:1782) and Robert Hodgson (b:1814)
We are not positive of the origin of this material, it may have been Isobel Burbridge or Sonya Hodgson. Information is also taken from a Nobelton history booklet of area families. The information is incomplete in some areas. The genealogical line follows the ascendents of William (Bill) Marshall Chamberlain Hodgson. Chamberlain
John Chamberlain was born in England, probably Lincolnshire, in 1782. He married Elizabeth Peel. Three children were born before the mother died. John then remarried Jane Nelson and they sailed for Canada where three more children were born. The children were Abigail, John, George, Elizabeth, Christine and Harriet. The first three were born in Lincolnshire. John is the only one that can be traced and he was born in Lincolnshire in 1812 and came to Canada as a boy. He died in 1886. No record of where the family lived until John Sr. purchased Lot 12, East half of Concession 11,King Township, a 100 acre lot in 1837. In 1847 he bought Lot 8, East half of Concession 11 and sold Lot 12 to Laughlin McKinley in 1849.
John Jr married Jane Taylor and they had six boys and one girl. In 1857 diptheria struck and killed three boys, aged three, ten and eleven. The surviving children were George, Malcolm, Elizabeth and William. George the eldest married Sophronia Jane Kennedy in 1873. Malcolm never married. Elizabeth married John Sheardown and they raised their family on the 11th Concession, King twp.
William James, the youngest son married Alice Ann Robb and they had seven children, Annie,Russel,William,Christopher, Stokes,Reuben and Hilda. Annie, the eldest, married Christopher Hodgson see below, and farmed Lot 17, Concession 10, King Twp. They had six children
Hodgson
Robert Hodgson was born September 14, 1814 in England, probably Yorkshire and died April 10, 1886. It is assumed he was married twice from information entered in a family bible. First marriage may have been to Margaret Keyes, born June 26, 1812 and died June 7, 1844. Second marriage may have been to Sarah King, born December 9, 1822, died August 16, 1899. In the 1851 Peel census he is listed as a Blacksmith in Albion and 37 years old. In the 1861 Peel census, he was also of the Church of England religion and 47 years old. Robert bought a three quarter acre lot for $75 from John Hewitt in 1846.
One of his children was William Wilson Hodgson, b:December 21, 1843; d:August 27, 1923. He is buried at Innis Lake, in the Bolton area. He listed his occupation on the 1891 census as a Blacksmith. He married Margaret Ann MacHugh on January 17, 1872. She was born January 17, 1847 and died January 19, 1926. She is also buried at Innis Lake. In the 1891 census they lived in Vaughan, York West, Ontario

- Christopher (Chris) Marshall Hodgson b: August 29, 1878, 10th Concession King Township, York County, Ontario; d: September 9, 1961, Nobleton, King Township, York County, Ontario
- William Thomas Hodgson b: February 1, 1876; d: June 1, 1891, aged 15 years, apparently he was an adopted son.
- Sarah (Sadie) Alexandra Hodgson b: May 29, 1884; m:???? Rushton; d:?????
- Margaret(Maggie) Jane Hodgson b:1874; m:Wilson (Wimpy) Gallagher; d:September 19, 1935. Wilson lived with Chris and Annie Hodgson during the last part of his life and they inherited his estate because he had no children.
Christopher (Chris) Marshall Hodgson b: August 29, 1878 on the 10th Concession King Township, York County, Ontario; d: September 9, 1961 in Nobleton, King Township, York County, Ontario. He was a strong supporter of the Presbyterian Church. He farmed in the Nobleton area. Beth remembers he and his wife sold eggs at the St. Lawrence Market and to customers in Toronto. He married Annie Winnifred Chamberlain on January 2, 1907. She was born October 16, 1885 and died February 6, 1988 in Nobleton, King Township, Ontario. Annie performed midwifery and nursing duties for neighbours in the Nobleton rural area. They are both buried in Nobleton Cemetary. There is a report that several Hodgsons and Chamberlains could be buried on Uncle Rube and Aunt Tilly's farm in Nobleton.
Chris Hodgson and Annie Chamberlain had seven children.

William (Bill) Marshall Chamberlain Hodgson married Eliza Henrietta Barker March 28, 1936 in Temperanceville United Church, King township, York County, Ontario. She was born October 14, 1914 in King Township. Both of their graves are in the Kettleby Cemetary, King Township. Bill and Eliza were initially dairy farmers on rented land and then later on their own land. Bill was always involved in many community activites and served 13 years on King Township Council as Councillae, deputy Reeve and Reeve. In 1957 he was made Warden of York County. After his Warden term had finished he became involved in Provincial politics and was elected to the Provincial legislature. He served as the MLA for York North for several years. In 1975 he was re-elected to represent York North for a third term and last term . As well as raising four children, Eliza was involved in many church activities and ably supported Bill in his political activities.
Bill Hodgson and Eliza Barker had four children.

Beth, Bob and Janice were all born at home
Alice Hodgson and Clare New, had no children. They initially owned a hardware store and later a paint store.

Ken Hodgson and Marg Johnson had four daughters. They lived and worked the home farm until Ken "retired" from farming and was hired by the Toronto Airport as part of their heavy equipment crew.
